Freecycle - Yahoo! Groups

I don't know if you guys have ever heard of this site, but it rocks my socks!

Exactly like the name implies, one man's junk is another's treasure. Don't send your crap to a landfill when there might be someone who wants it. You can reply to someone giving away their stuff, post that you are looking for a single item (once a month per item, one item per week) or offer something you want to trash but think someone might be able to salvage... at worse no one wants it and you trash it, at least you gave it a shot. Right?

I have picked up 4 treadmills (yes they broke down eventually... but I have never paid for one!), 1 full sized upright piano c. 1924, maternity clothes, a snow cone machine, furniture, bedding, computer monitors, a full sized working MAC PC, baby toys, baby clothes, cleaning products, food ingredients and more.

I have offered things like cordless keyboards, a breadmaker, clothes, belts, hamster cages and food, coffee pot, fish tank stuff, garage sale leftovers, broken treadmills... and it all gets picked up by someone who wants it! Every last thing...

Just go to Yahoo! log in, search in groups for freecycle + your city or your part of a city. Here in Orlando we have about 6 that I am connected to... so when I REALLY want to get rid of that tacky cat vest Aunt Velda gave me last Christmas, I can post it on all of the local sites and then choose the person myself who seems to want it the most!

Check out the link HERE to learn more about it.

"Welcome! The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,866 groups with 6,854,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on “Browse Groups” above the search box. Have fun!"

RecycleBank - This is cool!

Rachel over at Surviving The Stores has found a great new way to earn coupons. It's called Recyclebank. Here's how it works (quoted from website):

"Members of the RecycleBank program can earn Points by curbside recycling and recycling e-waste. In the curbside program, your RecycleBank cart will be weighed each week upon pick-up. The weight will then be translated to RecycleBank Points. The more you recycle, the more your household can earn. In a few select communities, households earn rewards based on their equal share of the total amount that their entire community recycles."

The recycling program is available in: Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee and Virginia. But if you don't live in one of these states you can still earn points redeemable for high value coupons. Check out the Earn Points section of the website.

-100 points just for signing up - this should already get you two coupons
