Media Statement on Mango Recall

PITTSBURGH –Splendid Products, LLC, a supplier of mangos and other tropical fruits,
has voluntarily recalled Daniella Mangos purchased since July 28, 2012, due to possible
contamination with salmonella.

Giant Eagle is one of multiple retailers impacted by this recall. Upon receiving this
information, Giant Eagle immediately removed all potentially affected products from
sale. Additionally, a register sale block has been implemented to ensure that none of
the produce is inadvertently purchased. Finally, phone calls are being made to those
customers who made mango purchases after the affected date with a Giant Eagle
Advantage Card and have a valid phone number in the database.

While aware of reported illnesses in Canada, to date Giant Eagle has no confirmed cases
of customer illness. Customers who have previously purchased the affected product
should dispose of it or return it to a local Giant Eagle supermarket for a refund.
