Florida - No Sales Tax this Weekend


The Basics: The sales tax exemption applies to each eligible item of clothing selling for $75 or less and to each eligible school supply item selling for $15 or less. The exemption will still apply no matter how many items are sold on the same invoice to a customer.

The Time Frame: This three-day tax exemption is in effect from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011, through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2011.

What’s In and What’s Out:
  • Allowable Clothing: Any article of wearing apparel, including all footwear (except skis, swim fins, roller blades, and skates) intended to be worn on or about the human body.
  • Clothing Not Included: Watches, watchbands, jewelry, umbrellas, handkerchiefs, or sporting equipment. Sales of clothing within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport.
  • Allowable School Supplies: Pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, notebooks, notebook filler paper, legal pads, binders, lunch boxes, construction paper, markers, folders, poster board, composition books, poster paper,scissors, cellophane tape, glue, paste, rulers, computer disks, protractors, compasses, and calculators.
  • School Supplies Not Included: Sales of school supplies within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport. Books are not included as part of this holiday.
