ATTN: Bank of America customers

I just got a notice on Friday that all Bank of America checking accounts will be charged $12 a month, (A MONTH!!!) beginning in June. So I am withdrawing my money and moving it to another bank. Anyone know of one that is offering $100 to open a new account? I also need to open up a savings account for my 1-year-old... any deals on that out there?

Leave me a comment!

I don't know if the offer is still out there, but I opened an account at ING Direct for Piper and they deposited $25 into the account. No minimum balance, no fees, etc. We use them as our primary bank and LOVE them, but if you like a physical bank you can go to, they won't work for you. They're paperless (think - no checks) and online only. You do have to have another bank that the account is linked to, I guess for situations in which you'd have to be able to go to a bank and take care of something.
BTW, I work for Bank of America (well, Merrill Lynch, but they own us now) and I had not heard this. Crazy!!!
Good luck!

Awesome Cindy! I can deposit into my hubby's Wacovia and link it that way.

I am not surprised about. I used to have a Bank of America account and they are ridiculous. I have Wachovia/Wells Fargo myself along with my wife. We have not had any problems yet!

I have had issues with them before, and every time I would go in, they would pitch something about an account that doesnt charge for this or that... and I would switch. She told me today "well there is one that doesnt require direct deposit and will not charge you the $12." No thanks. Then the computers went down... Sometimes I think having a wild 1 year old speeds things up. especially when he is running through the line and offices and finally breaking down and crying. Instead of sending me on my way with a check, she counted out the cash and I left. (I HATED walking out of there with the cash and my baby!!!)
