Cool, Useful, Fun Freebie
Make free VoIP calls
We have a thousand choices when it comes to communicating with others. Twitter, Facebook and instant messaging keep us connected at all times. But occasionally it's nice to hear someone's voice. With handy VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) tools, you can make calls for free.
Skype—The most popular VoIP program is Skype. It allows you to make free PC-to-PC calls to other Skype users. And it works no matter what country they're in. You can even do video chat. There's also a Skype app for many smart phones. While on a Wi-Fi connection, calls to Skype users are also free. They won't use up your minutes.
iCall—This program is similar to Skype. It doesn't have the same instant messaging or video chat features. It can really only make phone calls. But it can call any U.S. or Canadian phone number for free. A built-in directory will help you find number for local businesses. As long as you have an Internet connection, calls are free.
Fring— Want to make free calls from your cell phone? Fring combines several social-networking and instant messaging services. And that's great, if you have fast thumbs. But it can also make calls without using your minutes. It works over Wi-Fi and 3G. Call quality will depend on your connection. So it won't replace your regular phone. But it's great for quick, free calls.
Google Voice—This is essentially an advanced call routing service. Calls from your Google Voice number are routed through an existing phone line. It could be your cell phone or your landline. So, it isn’t exactly free. You have to be paying for a phone line. But the call can be routed to anywhere in the United States. It will still be treated like a local call. You save by not having to pay long-distance fees!
