Corrections...

First off... I would never intentionally lead anyone astray... unlike a newly very popular couponer that was recently on the TLC show "Extreme Couponing." You can read details of the shady and fraudulent transactions caught on the show HERE.

It was brought to my attention that a coupon I used yesterday went against the stores couponing policy. It didnt strike me as weird for a number of reasons I will get into in just a minute.

I posted THIS yesterday. And at the time that I printed and used the coupons for free tenderloins, the manufacturer had, in fact, issued a coupon for a free tenderloin. They however didnt realize that one of the only 2 places they sell their product does not take internet printable coupons (IPCs) that were for a free product. So there was a lot of talk on their facebook page and they took their PDF coupon down and reissued one for BOGO. The coupon was never fraudulent, it just didnt match up with the store's coupon policy. I should have read the policy before I went in, but I figured everything was in order. (It is not a store I choose to shop in very often.) I rang my order up at the self checkout line and the customer service representative had me come to the front desk so she could take care of my coupons and I could pay. She did, I did, I went on my way.

I get home and the company's facebook page is all a buzz and everyone is mad with them for issueing a coupon they could not use. I look up the coupon policy and it looked OK to me, but was interpretted a different way apparently.

We DO NOT accept the following coupons:
  • Checkout coupons
  • Print-at-home Internet coupons that require no purchase
To me that looks like you can't take a coupon in and NOT buy the product and still get the deduction. If it is in my cart, I am purchasing it. If it is BOGO, then I am still buying 2 items, the store has just priced them differently (ie the first one is $1.99, the second one is $0.00, the third one is $1.99, the fourth one is $0.00, etc) There are never coupons that will give you money without having an item in hand... so I think that is a badly worded phrase.

Also being that I don't shop there, you would think the customer service girl would have said that I couldn't use it. That seems like kinda a big deal if they dont accept those type of coupons AT ALL... that she would know. But alas, many employees dont know their own coupon policy. That's a shame.

So, my apologies for using a legit coupon at a place that's coupon policy says they would not take that kind of coupon. Technically that is coupon fraud and I am embarrassed to have played a part in it. I hope I didnt send anyone on a wild goose chase to try to copy-cat my deal and then you have a hard time doing so.
