Keep browser tabs open without slowing down

Adding tabs to my browser supercharged my Web surfing. I didn't need to have dozens of windows open. I could open a dozen sites in a single window. It was like I had gone from crawling to driving a race car.

Unfortunately, progress comes at a cost. Having four dozen tabs open at once really sucks up resources. If you browse like this, things tend to slow down. Sites load slowly. Videos turn choppy. And occasionally, the whole thing crashes.

But you can't be asked to go back to crawling, can you? That would be undignified. If you've experienced these problems, try BarTab. This Firefox extension preserves performance while you go tab crazy.

You often load tabs in the background (e.g., right-click>>Open Link in New Tab). When this happens, BarTab freezes any loading. The tab will only load when you actually click on it. Open all the tabs you want. But only use system resources when looking at them.

(You can manage BarTab from the Tabs tab in the options menu. On a PC, click Tools>>Options. On Mac, click Firefox>>Preferences.)
