Free tools to keep your hard drive in shape

Your computer comprises multiple components. Take away any and you'll have problems. Among the most important, though, is your hard drive. It holds your operating system, personal files, programs and much more.
Losing your hard drive essentially means losing your computer. So, it makes sense to keep it in tiptop shape. Your hard drive is pretty complex. You'll need a number of tools to provide quality maintenance. The following will do nicely.

Revo Uninstaller – Imagine that every garbage bag in your home had holes in it. On the way to the curb, they'd leave a trail of junk. That would be gross. When you uninstall programs, there really is a trail of junk. Unnecessary files, folders and registry entries are often left behind. This tool removes programs and all that leftover stuff.

UltraDefrag – Your hard drive holds a ton of information. But it isn't always stored in an orderly fashion. Programs are made of dozens of different files. But they can be spread all over the hard drive. Bringing together associated files makes retrieving them faster. UltraDefrag makes quick work of defragmenting your hard drive.

HDD Health – Hard drives fail. That's just part of life with computers. And they don't always issue a warning. This tool can alert you to impending problems. It gives you the chance to take action. You can back up your files and get a new hard drive.

WinDirStat – A new hard drive can seem like a magician's top hat. You can fit nearly anything inside. But in truth, space is finite. At some point, you'll ask, "Where did it all go?" This program can tell you. You'll see which files and programs are taking up the most space. You can remove things you no longer need.
